Improving Eye Function
Clinical research showed that Enzogenol may improve distant vision and slow down the decline of eye function with age.
The effects of Enzogenol on parameters of eye health were studied in a clinical trial:
Study 3. Double-blind, controlled study of the effects of Enzogenol on eye function in elderly rest-home residents
This study was carried out by Rachel March and Dr. Nigel Gilchrist of the Christchurch Geriatric Medical Research Trust at the
Princess
Margaret
Hospital
,
Christchurch
,
New Zealand
. In this trial 60 participants from local rest-homes with an average age of 82 years were assigned to treatment and control groups. The 30 treatment subjects received 480 mg of Enzogenol + 60 mg of Vitamin C per day for 6 months. The 30 control subjects received 60 mg of Vitamin C only. In this third clinical trial Enzogenol was again very well tolerated with no treatment related adverse reactions and normal laboratory measures of all biochemical and haematological parameters. The data indicated that Enzogenol was associated with beneficial effects for eye function shown below. Interestingly, there were less cases of illness (adverse and serious adverse events) in the Enzogenol group than in the control group which possibly reflected better overall health of the elderly people taking Enzogenol, yet this finding was not statistically significant. Publication of this study is currently in progress.
This study with 60 rest-home residents with an average age of 82 years showed that Enzogenol may help to improve eye sight.
Distant vision improved significantly (p=0.028) over the vitamin C only controls. There were less people experiencing deterioration, and more people with stable and improved vision.
Acuity of vision, a combined measure of near and distant vision declined five times faster in the control group compared to the Enzogenol group over the 6 months trial period (p=0.079).
These findings showed that taking Enzogenol had benefits for people’s eye sight. In particular, these benefits were effective in a population of older people that commonly experience difficulties with their eye sight. There was a significant improvement in distant vision and the deterioration in acuity of vision was five times less with Enzogenol than with Vitamin C alone demonstrating
that Enzogenol may help vision and may reduce the deterioration in eye sight that is a normal consequence of getting older.
